About Search123
Hi, I’m Arron Zhou. I’ve been building web applications for the past 8 years, and somewhere along the way I became the person everyone asks for tech help. “How do I find this PDF on Google?” “What’s a good free alternative to Photoshop?” “Is this VPN actually safe?”
I started Search123 in October 2025 because I got tired of answering the same questions individually. Every guide on this site is something I’ve either explained to a friend, figured out for a client project, or wished someone had told me earlier in my career.
What Makes This Site Different
There are thousands of “best tools” listicles on the internet. Most of them are written by people who’ve never actually used the tools they recommend. I know because I’ve read them while researching my own articles, and the errors are obvious once you’ve actually spent time with the software.
Here’s how I work:
I install and use every tool myself. Not for 10 minutes. I use it for at least a week in my actual workflow before writing about it. If a tool review says “the UI is intuitive,” that’s because I spent real hours navigating it.
I test search techniques with real queries. When I say a search operator works a certain way, I’ve run dozens of test queries and documented the results. Several articles include my raw test data.
I update articles when things change. Software updates, pricing changes, discontinued features. I review every published article at least once a quarter and update anything that’s no longer accurate. You’ll see “Updated” dates on articles that have been revised.
I disclose limitations honestly. If a free tool has a major drawback, I’ll say so. If a technique only works in specific scenarios, I’ll explain when it doesn’t apply. I’d rather give you accurate expectations than inflate my recommendations.
What You’ll Find Here
Search Techniques — Advanced operators, Boolean logic, specialized search engines, and strategies for finding exactly what you need. These guides range from beginner-friendly introductions to deep dives that even experienced researchers find useful.
Tool Reviews & Comparisons — Honest, tested reviews of free and paid tools for productivity, file conversion, privacy, and everyday tasks. I include comparison tables with specific feature data, not just surface-level summaries.
Digital Privacy & Security — Practical guidance on VPNs, password managers, browser settings, and online safety. No fear-mongering, just clear explanations of what actually matters and what you can safely ignore.
Productivity Tips — Email management, browser extensions, keyboard shortcuts, and workflow strategies that I use myself. If I recommend a productivity hack, it’s one that’s survived at least a month in my own routine.
About Me
I’m a frontend engineer based in the US. My professional background includes building web applications for startups and mid-size companies, with a focus on performance optimization and developer tooling. I’ve contributed to a few open-source projects (you can find me on GitHub) and occasionally write technical articles on topics beyond search — though Search123 is where I focus most of my writing energy.
Outside of work, I’m an obsessive optimizer. I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit configuring my development environment, testing note-taking apps, and finding the fastest way to do things that probably don’t need to be fast. Search123 is the productive outlet for that tendency.
Transparency & Ethics
This site is supported through Google AdSense advertising, which allows me to keep all content free. Advertising placement is handled automatically by Google and never influences editorial decisions. I have no affiliate relationships with any tools I review unless explicitly disclosed.
I don’t accept payment for reviews, and I don’t guarantee positive coverage. Companies occasionally send me tools to try, and I’ll note that in the review when it happens. But the opinion is always mine.
Content Methodology
Every article follows the same editorial process:
- Research — I read existing coverage, official documentation, and user forums. If the topic involves a tool, I sign up and start using it.
- Testing — Hands-on testing for a minimum of one week. For comparison articles, I use all compared tools in parallel.
- Writing — First draft written from my notes and testing experience. I aim for accuracy over word count.
- Review — I re-read after 24 hours and fact-check specific claims. Links are verified, version numbers confirmed, pricing double-checked.
- Publication — Article goes live. I add it to my quarterly review list for future updates.
